In November 2015, as hotels often do, the Doubletree Sacramento was sold. In typical Westmont Hospitality fashion, I was looked after as a member of the Westmont family and given a Regional GM position in Florida. In early 2018, I was awarded the 2017 General Manager of the Year. This reminded me of the care Westmont provides and the appreciation it shows for hard work and great performance.

Working with Westmont Hospitality has been a fantastic experience, particularly due to its family atmosphere and entrepreneurial spirit. As GM’s, we are given the keys to the hotel to run and treat as our own business. We are encouraged to think outside the box and try new strategies and ideas without the fear of failure.

Growing up with my family in the hotel industry, I guess you could say hospitality is in my blood. I joined Westmont Hospitality in 2011 when my husband and I moved our family to Omaha. As an Area Director of Revenue, I work alongside some of the most intelligent, humble and down-to-earth colleagues that I have had the privilege to work with in my career.

As an Area Director of Revenue, I work alongside some of the most intelligent, humble and down-to-earth colleagues that I have had the privilege to work with in my career. We inspire and challenge each other to strive for excellence every day. One of the big deciding factors in choosing to join Westmont Hospitality was the family-first culture. From day one, I have had the ability to spend the needed time with my family, which in turn freed me to strive for excellence in my professional role. As a mother of three, my family is my priority and Westmont has always supported that. At Westmont, I have the ability to thrive both professionally and personally ultimately striving to become the best version of myself.

No two days are the same at Westmont Hospitality. As Westmont continues to grow and change, there are many opportunities to take on new projects. Most recently, I was involved in conducting due diligence for a possible new acquisition. I enjoyed collaborating with the team responsible for establishing the assets and liabilities of this prospective property and evaluating its potential for our portfolio. On a day-to-day basis there is a sense that we are working towards a grand, achievable vision and it’s rewarding seeing the vision become reality.

I started in November of 2013 – really just trying to get back into actual hospitality management after a long stint as an hourly while taking care of my family as we were adjusting to some life trials and tribulations. I started in November of 2013 – really just trying to get back into actual hospitality management after a long stint as an hourly while taking care of my family as we were adjusting to some life trials and tribulations. I began as a Banquet Manager and before I knew it, F&B Manager then Director of F&B. Just when I thought change was needed, Sami and I talked about the next step in my career and presented me with my biggest career challenge to date – Director of Operations. I think that is what I like most about Westmont Hospitality, and especially my team here in Sacramento, the belief in me and my skill set and how those skills are part of a 5 year upward climb – personally and as a team. It could be said – that is what it’s like to work with Westmont – going from negotiating an entry level managers wage to Director of Operations. My story could be one of any – do things right, get through the bumps and bruises, and there is no limit to what Westmont can do for you.

There have been so many great projects in the past 5 years, it’s hard to pick one – as it seems every project our team has touched, the property seems to benefit immensely. But I would have to say, my favourite was being asked to help the Sacramento Hospitality Association annual Farm To Fork fundraiser get off the ground. Not only is it for two great charities every year with a chance to showcase the area’s hotel Chefs with local wineries & breweries, but a chance to highlight our F&B team to the other so called “big box” hotels directly downtown. Not only do we compare and compete, we are now the area’s standard for hospitality excellence – the ones being hunted. This project is truly a team effort and showcases Westmont Hospitality at its best.

During the past 12 years working with Westmont, I have been able to move from a single property General Manager to a multi-property GM with responsibility for over 55 million euros in revenue. My passion and drive to win, encouraged by Westmont’s confidence, decision-making and challenges, has allowed me to grow in a highly professional environment.

My passion and drive to win, encouraged by Westmont’s confidence, decision-making and challenges, has allowed me to grow in a highly professional environment.

Westmont has given me the opportunity to work in three different countries and for three different international brands including Hilton, Marriott and IHG.

Rebranding, full and soft renovations, hotel repositioning, and high property investments have been some of the exciting tasks I’ve been allowed to implement with Westmont.

Clear structures, short pathways, decision-making and high-level planning are some of the attributes that Westmont has to offer.

I’ve been working with Westmont for two and a half years. Although I was coming from a revenue background, they gave me the first opportunity to become the Director of Sales for a cluster of hotels in London. Since I started, I have looked after up to 4 hotels, from 3 different brands, in different cities and soon in a different country, which I have found extremely rewarding and motivating. Over these two years, I have become much more analytical, savvy about the business and results driven. One of the things I like the most about Westmont is the freedom to try new ideas to drive the business forward. The so called “common wisdom” doesn’t exist, I feel that Westmont is very forward thinking. It is a good organisation to work with, they definitely put people first.

Having spent over five years with Westmont Hospitality, I have been given numerous opportunities to expand my knowledge and grow my career. During this time I have had four different roles, starting with a single site hotel and developing into area roles that has led me to oversee multiple hotels and brands within these properties.

During this time I have had four different roles, starting with a single site hotel and developing into area roles that has led me to oversee multiple hotels and brands within these properties.

So great is the development culture with Westmont, that I have also been asked to help in project work – such as an Interim Operations Director role in Europe – a portfolio of eleven hotels and the ongoing role of leading the procurement relationships for a number of UK properties.

I thoroughly enjoy working with Westmont Hospitality. I feel I have learned and developed more in the five years spent with them than the previous fifteen years spent working in the hospitality industry. Whilst they appreciate and encourage hotel teams to operate autonomously there is a constant background of support and advice in both the Operations and Finance areas. The Westmont teams are highly experienced and always willing to help and guide whenever called upon.
